Main areas of concern

Like many other large industries, print uses masses of energy and chemicals. It consumes huge amounts of water, paper, aluminium and plastics and creates large quantities of waste.

But it is getting better. There are now stringent legislation in relation to the disposal of waste products and computer-to-plate technology has done away with the need for film. However, there are still some things that environmentally aware designers should know.

Lovely As A Tree, the website set up by Caroline Clark of Three Trees, is a fantastic resource for information about print. Rather than duplicate it here, we have provided links to the relevant sections further down this page.
